Unwinding and recharging during summer holidays
As Brussels prepares to slow down beginning next week, many will take a well-deserved time off—a time for reflection. It is a time when many may turn their focus away from the hectic demands of work and towards cultivating their overall well-being, especially their psychological health.
Some may evaluate whether our basic needs are being satisfied at work, if we have a sense of belonging and esteem, and if we have the opportunity to be our real selves. Even with our attention focused on our families and friends, we will look to come back to our baseline and recharge.
During this time off, it is normal for some people to reflect on their work lives and assess whether their basic needs are being met at work, especially if you bring diversity of thought to your day-to-day work. One important need that comes to mind is the confidence that one will not be micromanaged. The ability to carry out my tasks freely and make decisions without constant checks is critical for developing a sense of trust and autonomy and, in many ways, the mental freedom to deliver our objectives creatively.
Our psychological demands, in addition to our basic safety needs, play a vital part in our job satisfaction. A strong sense of belonging and esteem are important components of psychological well-being. Our team members and our own general happiness and motivation improve significantly when we all feel appreciated, respected, and part of a supportive group at work.
Self-fulfillment is at the top of the hierarchy of needs. These needs denote our ability to be our full, honest selves at work. When our self-fulfillment needs are met, then our capacity to deliver our finest work increases. When we are engaged, inspired, and empowered in our work, we bring a level of dedication and excitement that produces amazing results.
Organisations in Brussels that prioritise and cultivate an atmosphere that supports people in reaching this degree of fulfilment would truly benefit from increased productivity, creativity, and success, in my opinion.
